Now! Go do it!
It will only take a minute (please?).
Ok. Now for the story behind it. Are you sitting comfortably? Good. Then let's begin.
Basically, the British Government used to punish people (well, men only -- I don't know why it was only men but there you go) for being gay. Mainly they imprisoned them, but sometimes they were given a choice between chemical castration and imprisonment -- if you know about Alan Turing, you probably know all this (someone correct me if I'm wrong about this stuff). Anyway, basically, they were kinda going by the (completely false) assumption that being gay is a lifestyle choice, and that they could change that. So, they punished people for their 'lifestyle choice'. Around 49,000
people were imprisoned or chemically castrated during this time, and while Alan Turing was pardoned just over a year ago (December 2013 I think? What a coincidence it was about the same time the film came out...), the other victims haven't been. So this petition is basically to get the British Government and the Monarchy ('cos it's a royal pardon) to say 'sorry' to everyone punished for something that shouldn't have been a crime, even if it's posthumously (which many of them are). The petition is also going to be handed in tomorrow (Monday) morning, so they want to get as many people signing it as possible. So... please?
This story always makes me feel like I want to cry (Oh, and I feel like this would be a good time to tell people I'm bisexual. But, Alice, if you're reading this, don't tell mum or dad. I want to tell them myself, when I'm ready).
Also, I apologize for the overuse of brackets. Rereading it...wow. There is a lot. But I ain't changing it.
